Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Anxiety, Depression, and Life Challenges

Sometimes life feels overwhelming and you're not sure why. You might be anxious all the time, stuck in low mood, or just feeling like you're not coping the way you used to. You don't need to be in crisis to deserve support.

I offer CBT counselling in Wishaw and Motherwell, and online across the UK, for adults who are struggling and ready to make changes.

Anxiety & worry

If you're feeling anxious most of the time - struggling with racing thoughts, physical tension, constant worry, or avoiding things that make you nervous - CBT can help.

We'll work together to:

  • Understand what triggers your anxiety

  • Learn techniques to manage physical symptoms (racing heart, tight chest, shallow breathing)

  • Challenge the thoughts that keep the anxiety going

  • Gradually face the things you've been avoiding

  • Build confidence in your ability to cope

CBT for anxiety in North Lanarkshire

I can help with generalised anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, panic attacks, and specific phobias.

Depression and low mood

When you're depressed, everything feels harder. Getting out of bed, seeing people, doing things you used to enjoy - it all takes more energy than you have.

CBT for depression helps you:

  • Identify the thoughts keeping you feeling stuck

  • Break tasks down into manageable steps

  • Rebuild activities that give you a sense of achievement or pleasure

  • Challenge the negative beliefs you have about yourself

  • Understand the patterns maintaining your low mood

Counselling for depression in Wishaw and Motherwell gives you a space to be honest about how you're really feeling and work towards feeling more like yourself again.

Stress and Overwhelm

Work pressure, relationship difficulties, financial worries, caring responsibilities, major life changes - stress builds up and eventually you hit a wall.

If you're exhausted, irritable, struggling to switch off, or feeling like you're barely holding it together, stress counselling can help you:

  • Identify what's actually overwhelming you (sometimes it's not what you think)

  • Learn to set boundaries and say no

  • Develop better coping strategies

  • Challenge perfectionism or unrealistic expectations

  • Make decisions about what needs to change

Anger Management

If you're losing your temper more than you'd like, snapping at people you care about, or feeling rage that seems out of proportion to the situation, CBT can help you understand what's underneath the anger.

Anger management counselling in Motherwell focuses on:

  • Recognising early warning signs before you explode

  • Understanding what triggers your anger

  • Learning techniques to calm yourself down in the moment

  • Addressing the thoughts and beliefs fueling the anger

  • Improving communication so you can express frustration without damaging relationships

Low Self-Esteem and Confidence

If you constantly doubt yourself, compare yourself to others, or believe you're not good enough, these beliefs can hold you back from living the life you want.

CBT helps you:

  • Identify where these beliefs came from

  • Challenge the negative stories you tell yourself

  • Build evidence for a more balanced view

  • Take small steps towards things you've been avoiding

  • Develop self-compassion (not self-criticism disguised as motivation)

Relationship Difficulties

While I don't offer couples counselling, I can help you work through relationship struggles from your perspective.

This might include:

  • Communication problems

  • Recurring conflicts

  • Difficulty setting boundaries

  • Patterns you keep repeating in relationships

  • Anxiety about relationships

  • Deciding whether to stay or leave

  • Ready to make changes (even if you're not sure what those changes are yet)

  • Willing to look at your thinking patterns

  • Open to trying practical strategies
